Is Android Spying its Users Secretly ?

The Android operating system has faced a lot of flak over the years for its huge number of privacy and security flaws.

Off late, the Google founded OS had seen many incidents of privacy concerns, mostly arising from seemingly innocuous applications designed to spy on the user's browsing habits and online shopping patterns, which would facilitate advertisers to target them with content of a more specific nature. Apps with spyware embedded in their code always pose a threat to your privacy.

A team of researchers from the German University  claims that as many as 234 Android apps could be tracking your activities online. The team from  the German Technical University Braunschweig have discovered about 234 apps that contain a very specific code designed to activate spyware that are inserted into these apps by means of ultrasonic sounds, produced upon visiting certain sites, using certain services online. Though originally designed to profile users based on their shopping habits, these apps could potentially be used to discover your identity on various devices, pinpoint your location and, affect online services like Bitcoin and Tor.

Asides from this, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute discovered that Android apps could be communicating with one another covertly, sharing sensitive information about the user. Apps that you granted permission to access your sensitive information may be designed to share this information with other apps.

Some reports even suggest that apps with Spyware could can actually be downloaded from the Google Play Store. A spyware called SMSVova was downloaded over a million times from Play Store by users, via a download for a System Update. This spyware is said to be able to track your location.

The very ads you see online every day are most probably, specifically compiled for you, because a number of apps which you thought were harmless have already leaked your personal information to advertisers. If you're an Android user, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to put your phone down for a minute.

Samsung Competes with Apple's Autonomous Car Production Experiment

After Apple recently tested its self driving car on public streets in the US, Samsung entered the race to make its first self driving car. The South Korean tech giant recently received approval to test the prototype of its self driving vehicle in the streets of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

According to sources, the government statement mentioned that Samsung had been allowed to test run its prototype on a Hyundai car fitted with cameras and sensors, on Monday.

Samsung is the first tech company to receive permission from the South Korea administration to test a self driving vehicle on the South Korean roads.

Apparently Samsung has actually been looking into the technology to produce autonomous driving as ealry as late 2015. In late 2016 it bought the American firm Harman which produces software and components for connected cars for $8 billion. In February Samsung is said to have invested in TetraVue, a tech firm developing 3D technology that is to enable autonomous vehicles to detect obstacles in front of them.

Driverless car technology is already a congested field with many tech companies like Apple and Google and the big players of the automobile industry like General Motors and Ford looking into it. Even Uber is said to have been interested in the project.

APPLE's new Autonomous Vehicle on SELF DRIVING Platform

Apple Inc outlined a plan to train operators of self-driving cars in documents submitted to California regulators earlier this month, the latest clues to the company's autonomous vehicle technology aspirations.
Apple was granted a permit to test self-driving cars on April 14 by the California Department of Motor Vehicles but the company has never said anything about its plan.
The state released 41 pages of Apple application documents to Reuters that give some clues about the company's highly secret self-driving effort, which it has never openly acknowledged.
The iPhone maker joins a long list of carmakers, start-ups and technology rivals, including Alphabet's Waymo, that are testing cars on state roads. Apple is looking for new hit products and autonomous car technology is expected to revolutionise the traditional auto industry.
As part of the application, Apple included a 10-page training plan that appeared to be related to operators taking back manual control of the car during automated driving exercises of the system, which it calls a development platform.
Apple declined to comment beyond the filing.
The plan includes a document called "Automated System: Development Platform Specific Training Overview" whose objective is "to train safety drivers in various automated driving conditions."
"Development platform will be controlled electronically (e.g. joystick) and safety drivers must be ready to intervene and take control," the document reads.
The document highlights different scenarios to be tested, from high-speed driving and tight U-turns to lane changes.
One letter sent from Apple to the state Department of Motor Vehicles noted that Apple's development platform "will have the ability to capture and store relevant data before a collision occurs."
The document does not include detail on how Apple's self-driving platform actually works or other technical details. It also does not say what kind of sensors are found on Apple's three permitted vehicles, all 2015 Lexus model RX450h.
The permit does not necessarily mean that Apple itself is building a full car. Apple could instead be designing a self-driving platform that can be integrated into other manufacturer's cars.

Social media platforms allow a person to create a group on which members can share views, photographs or videos. Concerns have been raised about social media misuse as fake news, morphed photographs and disturbing videos with fabricated local narratives can easily be circulated that can trigger tension and even communal rift in an area.

In a order issued by District Magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police Nitin Tiwari, it has been made clear that any factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information on a social media group could result in an FIR against the group incharge

Considering this issue, directives are being issued to social media groups, WhatsApp and Facebook group administrators and members, the order said. There are over 200 million WhatsApp users in India.
It directed that social media group administrators should be ready to bear the responsibility and ownership of the groups. The administrator must include only those members who are personally known to him or her.

"VIRTUAL Imagination" to "REALITY"- FACEBOOK New Brain APP to be released

Giving a glimpse of what is going on at its secret “Building 8″ research group, Facebook has said it is working on a way to let people type with their brains — at speeds faster than physical typing — via a brain-computer interface.
“We are working on a system that will let people type with their brains. Specifically, we have a goal of creating a silent speech system capable of typing 100 words per minute straight from your brain — that’s five times faster than you can type on a smartphone today,” Regina Dugan, Vice President of Engineering and “Building 8,” told the audience at the annual F8 developers conference in San Jose.
Facebook announced two projects from “Building 8″ that are focused on silent speech communications.  ”Building 8″ is the product development and research team at Facebook focused on creating and shipping new, category-defining consumer products that are social first.
Products from “Building 8″ will be powered by a breakthrough innovation engine modeled after US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and shipped at scale, the company said. Just like people take many photos and choose to share only some of them, Facebook’s new project will decode words that people have already decided to share by sending them to the speech centre of the brain.
“It’s a way to communicate with the speed and flexibility of your voice and the privacy of text. We want to do this with non-invasive, wearable sensors that can be manufactured at scale,” Facebook added. The company also unveiled a project directed at allowing people to hear with their skin and it is building the hardware and software necessary to deliver language through the skin.
